Some things are so good, I feel the need to tell everyone that I can to see it/read it/hear it. Other things are so bad that I want to warn people away. Some of these feature lesbians, but not all of them. Stuff in black is good stuff. Stuff in red is stuff you should avoid like the plague. [The number between brackets is the rating I've given them.] (1 is bad, 10 is good.)
Comics:
PREACHER The rev. Jesse Custer is suddenly possessed by a being powerful enough to take on God. Joined by his gun-slinging girlfriend Tulip and an alcoholic Irish vampire, Cassidy, he travels across the country on a mission to find God. Lots of fun violence. 9 volumes. [10]
MY FAITH IN FRANKIE Frankie is a girl with her own god watching over her. Really cute. 1 volume. [8]
TRANSMETROPOLITAN A futuristic tale of a corrupt and chaotic world as reported by Spider Jerusalem, spastic rogue reporter. So much fun. Hillarious. 9 volumes so far. [10+]
SANDMAN If you haven't read at least some of this, you can't call yourself a comic book geek. Neil Gaiman's dark tale of Morpheus, the Sandman. 10 volumes plus a bunch of single volume spinoffs. [9]
LUCIFER A spinoff of Sandman, it follows Lucifer Morningstar on his adventures post resignation as the ruler of Hell. Really good. Six volumes (I think). [8]
JOHNNY THE HOMICIDAL MANIAC AND SQUEE Dark, twisted tales of... man, it's so nuts I can't even explain it. Violence abounds, but it's... funny violence. 1 volume each. [8]
LENORE Dark and twisted tales of a cute little dead girl. Worth a check out. [7]
MEAT CAKE A gothic victorian series of short stories featuring mermaids, siamese twins, and zombie werewolves. One of my absolute favorites. [10]
BLANKETS An autobiographical tale of a Wisconsin boy's early life and first love. Poetic and really well written. 1 volume. [8]
NIGHTMARES AND FAIRY TALES: Fairytales retold, new ones created. All with a dark twist. 2 volumes so far. 7
1612 I don't read Marvel comics much, but Neil Gaiman took the basic story of the Marvel universe and set in in 1612. Now that is cool. [8]
SIN CITY So much sex and violence. So, so much. The men kick ass. The women kick ass. There are lesbians. There's genital mutilation. It's insane. Seven volumes. [9]
TANK GIRL Punk comics from the '90's by the guy who animates the band The Gorillaz. Boobs, guns, and kangaroos. I dunno how many volumes. 5 maybe? [9]
FABLES Snow white, Sleeping Beauty, the Big Bad Wolf and other fables are now living in New York. 5 volumes so far. [9]
SANDMAN MYSTERY THEATER Mysteries set in the 1930's. Quite fun. ? volumes. [8]
KREEKY PLAYGROUND I really regret buying this. It's boring, cliche gothic comics. Bad writing that was just confusing at times. They do get props for Mindless Self Indulgence making a cameo, though. 1 volume.[3]
THE MINX A girl is not only unfortunate enough to have multiple personalities, but she pyschicly recieves messages from a so-called monkey god. Poor girl. 8 issues. [10]
Manga:
CLOVER A futuristic tale of magic and love and death and... lots of pretty illustrations. Really, the story is lacking, but the art is gorgeous. 4 volumes. [7]
UTENA The story of a girl named Utena who wants to be a prince, and how she gets caught up in a series of duels to possess a girl named Anthy. Kind of weird. A lesbian must-read. 5 volumes. [7]
PARADISE KISS Melodrama, romance, and fashion. Yet another pretty-illustration series. But it has a transvestite, which makes it much cooler. 5 volumes. [7]
MARS A really sweet series with lots of psychological twists and original romance. Well made. 15 volumes. [9]
THE RISING STARS OF MANGA I honestly like these books better than most other manga I've read. [10]
PURE TRANCE/ CINDERALLA/ PRINCESS MERMAID All by Junko Mizuno, the art would be called cute if the bright, big-eyed girls weren't zombies or canibals or complete psychos.[9]
Movies
ORANGES ARE NOT THE ONLY FRUIT A great British film about a girl raised in a very strict religious family deals with her love for another girl. Funny and beautiful. [10+]
BUT I'M A CHEERLEADER Makes fun of every gay stereotype in the book. A cheerleader is accused of being gay and is sent to "True Directions" to put her on the "right" track. HILLARIOUS. [10]
BETTER THAN CHOCOLATE A lesbian teenager's mother suddenly surprises her daughter with a visit the same week her daughter finds a new girlfriend. This is mostly cool because of Judy the transexual gal. [7]
KISSING JESSICA STEIN: Most of this isn't very good except for one scene that makes everyone cry: the mom scene. It's worth watching just for that. [5]
FIRE Two Indian women with less than sensitive husbands find solace in each other and begin a clandestine relationship. Created riots in India. [9]
THE TRUE ADVENTURES OF TWO GIRLS IN LOVE High school girl romance. Teen angst sometimes made me mad, but overall, a good watch. Pretty funny. [7]
AIMEE AND JAGUAR In Germany during WWII, a married woman falls for a Jewish woman and they carry on a secret affair. A true story. [9]
EVERYTHING RELATIVE A bunch of lesbians take a trip and bitch about being lesbians. Then have lots of random sex. Stupid. [1]
MY FIRST MISTER Okay, this isn't a lesbian movie, but it is really great. I cried for hours afterwards. It's funny and sad and wonderful. I loved it. [10]
LOST AND DELIRIOUS Boarding school girl bittersweet romance. More bitter than sweet, but really good. You'll cry. [10]
HEAVENLY CREATURES 95% of it is sweet and made me wish I had a friend like this when I was their age. Very creative.[9]
HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH Okay, no lesbians here, but this is seriously one of the best musicals I've ever seen. Drag queens abound. You'll sing these songs for days if not years. [11]
MAY May is sort of what Fiona would be if Fiona went psychotic. I think. Maybe. Zombies abound. So do sexy lesbians making out. But seriously, this is a trippy movie that... man, I love this movie so much. [11]
DESERT HEARTS A recently divorced woman moves to the desert and finds friendship and love in another woman. This causes some problems. [6]
JESUS CHRIST: VAMPIRE HUNTER Vampires have been killing lesbians left and right, and now it's up to the big JC to stop them. This... is so bad, it's good. In fact, it's great. And the girls are reeeeeally hot. [7, Just because it's such a hoaky film]
APRIL'S SHOWER An ex-lesbian forces her ex-girlfriend to be her maid of honor at her wedding. Full of stereotypes, cliches, and a cast of the director's friends. A waste of an hour and a half. [2]
GO FISH Worst. Acting. Ever. [1]
